Sannikov Land by haryarti Sannikov Land by haryarti
Subject of this picture is based on the legend of Sannikov Land. On the motives of the many stories of this fantastic land, Obruchev's book, "Syberia" games and more.

Small description:
"Sannikov Land - phantom island in the Arctic Ocean, which was allegedly seen some investigators to the north of the New Siberian Islands.
For the first time said of him in 1811, mining arctic foxes on the northern shores of the New Siberian Islands industrialist Yakov Sannikov, an experienced polar explorer, who discovered the some islands earlier: Stolbovoi and Faddeev. He suggested the existence of "vast land" north of the Kotelniy island. According to explorer, the sea rose up 'high rocky mountains. "

Another evidence for the existence of vast lands in the north were many observations of migrating birds - geese, and other polar spring departing farther to the north, and returning in the autumn with the offspring. Since birds can not dwell in the icy wilderness, it has been suggested that in the north of Sannikov Land is rich and fertile, and the birds fly right place. However, the obvious question: "How to the north of deserted coast of Eurasia can settle down the fertile grounds?"
